Grady Douglass was born and raised in the small ranching town of Rocksprings, Texas, located in the heart of the Texas Hill Country. His family has been ranching this area since the early 1900's and Grady is a 5th generation rancher in Edwards county. He has deep roots in ranching and rodeo heritage and understands the value of hard work - something that goes into each and every unique leather piece that comes off his bench. Grady moved to Kerrville, Texas where he graduated from high school and then attended THE Texas A&M University in College Station. He graduated with a degree in Animal Science and a minor in business in 3 years and returned home to Rocksprings to open a leather shop and continue the ranching tradition.
Grady's interest in leatherwork stemmed from a young age with his appreciation for high quality gear that LOOKED as great as it functioned. While living in the Texas Panhandle dayworking for various ranches and riding young horses for different folks, the jump into leatherwork was made. A great friend showed Grady the introductory skills necessary to begin carving and tooling leather, and the rest is history. After returning to school for his sophomore year of college, Grady diligently worked at honing his skills and his new "hobby" quickly developed into a part-time job and from a part-time job to a full-time career choice. Leatherwork helped pay his way through college and after graduating in August of 2012, Grady returned to his roots and opened his shop in Rocksprings.
Most days you'll find Grady working away in the shop, but when he's away, you may find him ranching, selling real estate, working horses, playing guitar, writing western/cowboy poetry, or just enjoying the simple joys of small-town life.
